Jade Huynh is a dual enrollment student with MCC. She has completed her Certified Nursing Assistant certificate and is expected to graduate from Lake Havasu High School in the spring.
MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College works with local school districts to give high school students the opportunity to earn college credits through the Early College program. Jade Huynh, a Lake Havasu High School student, used the program to help her reach her goal of becoming a nurse.
The Early College program allows students, from eighth-grade through high school seniors, earn college credits. The programs are tailored to give students a jumpstart on their college education by offering courses that fulfill both high school graduation requirements and count toward college degrees.
Huynh decided to enroll in the dual enrollment courses to get ahead in earning her college credits in order to transfer to a four-year university and finish with her Bachelor of Science in Nursing in three years from Northern Arizona University (NAU).
“Attending MCC has helped me figure out what I want to pursue in the future. I found that MCC is a great way for students to take college classes without having to worry about the cost and the classes are smaller, so I was able to receive a better learning experience.”
She earned her Certified Nursing Assistant certificate. Obtaining her certificate allowed her to start her nursing career while still in high school, learn the basics of bedside care, and general information about functions and diseases of the human body.
She also learned from experienced faculty who guided her in understanding learning outcomes, career planning and support when needed.
Her ultimate goal is to become a registered nurse and after a few years, she hopes to return to earn her master’s in nursing to become a nurse practitioner.
Huynh is a first-generation college student and has lived in Lake Havasu City for 17 years. She has earned the opportunity to participate in the college Commencement ceremony in May, a week before she graduates from Lake Havasu High School. In her free time, she likes to spend time with her friends and family as well as baking and cooking.
