Centa Davis has been selected to be a 2025 All-Arizona Academic Team member. She’s a nursing student on the Lake Havasu Campus.
MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College would like to congratulate Centa Davis, a Lake Havasu nursing student, for being one of five MCC students selected to represent the College as All-Arizona Academic Team members.
All-Arizona Academic Team members in the transfer category receive a full-tuition scholarship to any public university in Arizona after they graduate from MCC. The scholarship covers resident tuition for 10 consecutive undergraduate semesters or 60 credits for the fall and spring semesters.
When Davis received the email letting her know she had gotten the scholarship, she was in disbelief.
“At that moment I realized what others have always seen in me that I didn’t. I wasn’t going to pursue my bachelor’s degree with having a new home, new job and transitions,” she said. “Continuing my education would not have been possible for a couple of years, but now I’m able to continue my journey of getting my bachelor’s degree and eventually my master’s degree.”
She plans to transfer to Arizona State University to pursue her bachelor’s degree. Her ultimate career goal is to become a nurse practitioner.
Davis had already worked as a licensed practical nurse for 11 years when she decided to continue her nursing journey in obtaining her registered nursing degree. She decided to enroll at MCC because of the time it would take to finish the program and the affordability.
“I was still paying student loans and decided it was time to finish a goal that I started back in 2006. I have always wanted to be a nurse and there was no other school that I was going to find where I’d be able to complete my registered nursing degree for the price at MCC,” Davis said.
While going through the program, she was able to receive support from her instructors who helped guide her through her coursework, exams and challenges.
Davis said her instructors were always willing to listen and share ideas for students to become successful.
The College strives to help its students make sure they’re set up for success in and outside of the classroom. By attending MCC, Davis was able to build a network of support.
“The value I found from attending MCC is community. I have built a tremendous community of friends, resources, and colleagues while on this journey,” she said. “I’ve attended two other community colleges, but the network built at MCC has been the best.”
Davis is a member of the Beta Beta Beta-Epsilon Chi Gamma, an honor society geared toward biology students. In her spare time, she enjoys spending time with family, friends, reading a good book and cuddling with her pets.
A total of five students from MCC were honored as All-Arizona Academic Team members: Karla Carrera (Bullhead), Jollene Ramirez (Bullhead), Centa Davis (Lake Havasu), Milaya Jackson (Kingman) and Morgan Knudson (Colorado City). Students will be celebrated with all honorees from other Arizona community colleges Feb. 19 in Gilbert, AZ.
