MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College’s Lake Havasu Campus has no shortage of Community Education classes aimed at keeping kids learning and engaged throughout the school year. From ceramics and voice classes to holiday-themed offerings and ballet, MCC has families covered!
Introduction to Children’s Ballet is for children ages four to 15, and involves learning basic ballet steps and vocabulary. The course focuses on conditioning, proper alignment, core and leg strength, and flexibility. The class is also ideal for dancers looking to refine their foundation, or improve flexibility and movement.
Sessions are held on Wednesdays from 3:15 to 4:15 p.m.; Sept. 4 – 25; Oct. 2 – 23; Oct. 30 – Nov. 20; Dec. 4 – 18.
Kids Ceramics, for children ages 10-18, will see students work on decorative sculpture forms in Week 1. The second week of class will have students using basic to intermediate techniques to construct usable, food-safe mugs. Week 3 will involve making Christmas ornaments, while the last week involves students using a variety of glazes to complete pieces and fire all projects.
Sessions are held on Thursdays from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., Sept. 5 – 26.
Kids Voice Classes by Julie will provide students with opportunities for personal growth and teamwork, all while strengthening their voice via songs in a variety of genres. All classes, for ages 5-8, incorporate age-level study of breathwork, music theory, ear training, solfege and sight reading, audition skills and performance mindset, choreography and much more.
Sessions are held Fridays from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m., Sept. 27 – Dec. 6.
Kids Voice Classes by Julie will also run a course for kids ages 9-12, with that class also incorporating age-level studies of music theory and more.
Sessions are held Wednesdays from 5 to 6 p.m., Sept. 25 to Dec. 4.
Cookies for Santa will see kids create their own cookie plate for Santa. Plates and paints are provided, so, kids only need to bring their imaginations! The plates will then be fired in the kiln and be prepared for pickup. Designed for children ages 7-10.
One session will be held Saturday, Nov. 9 from 9 to 11 a.m.
