MCC Community Education’s first full-time facilitator has big plans for the division

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave Community College Community Education is starting 2025 in style by incorporating a new, comprehensive outline for a wide range of classes courtesy of the division’s first full-time instructor, Delia Munoz. Munoz has a wealth of experience in a variety of arts-related fields, and has brought that experience to MCC in creating classes that range from ceramics and enameling on metal to metalsmithing and recycling glass art.
Munoz is originally from San Francisco but has traveled to the majority of the states in the U.S. and even lived in Germany for a time. Throughout her travels and experiences, the importance of art has remained at the forefront for Munoz, with that passion starting at an early age.
“One thing I realized early on is that art is a language all its own,” Munoz says. “You can have a class where students may be from worlds away with different cultures and languages, and yet they can all speak the same language of art without judgment.”
The courses Munoz has developed are hands-on offerings, as Munoz has found that operating in such a manner is of the utmost benefit to her students.
“Art, especially hands-on, really does help the brain form,” she says. “You’re so used to your brain operating in a particular format, but interaction with art can help to develop thought processes or ways of doing things you haven’t considered before.”
Munoz also believes art is a way to help build one’s community while also helping to foster peer relationships within that community. Such interactions help to build confidence, too, she says.
“It helps build your self-esteem because it’s something you build that comes from you, that no one can take away,” she says. “You’re using color, you’re using your hands, and there’s really nowhere else in life where you’re able to do that, especially in judgment-free environments.”
If you’re considering getting involved with MCC’s art offerings but are on the fence, Munoz’s advice is similar to what she tells her students in the art room: don’t overthink it.
“You’ll never know what you enjoy, you’ll never know what you’re good at, until you try,” she says.
