MOHAVE COUNTY – Classes are back in session at Mohave Community college. Many 16-week and 8-week long classes started spring semester on January 19.
It’s not too late to sign up for the semester, 12-week classes start Feb. 8. To sign up for those classes, just fill out the free online application at Apply.Mohave.edu, or call 866-MOHAVECC for assistance.
So far this semester more than 350 new students have joined nearly 3,000 returning students who are not letting the pandemic stop them from taking their college education and career advancement training to the next level.
“I’m so excited to start the new semester because I love meeting new people in my courses,” said Delaney Remp, a Lake Havasu student who is on the path to a bachelor’s degree in psychology.
Students are continuing their education this semester in live remote classes that they can attend from home. Some labs that require hands-on learning are conducted on campus, such as the college electrical and welding labs. The labs are limited to no more than ten people at a time, and everyone must follow all CDC and state health department pandemic safety guidelines.
Many students said they have found some great benefits to the live remote classes, including more flexibility when balancing family, work and school.
“It’s almost been a year since the nursing program has been completed remotely and after adjusting, I have a system and enjoy going assignments from home,” said Michelle Drwal, a mother and Kingman nursing student who would like to eventually help Alzheimer patients.
Students also said that with the recent surge in the virus cases, they feel safer taking classes in a live remote setting.
“Remote classes have afforded me some conveniences. I’m hoping to move to Phoenix in March so I can be close to ASU’s Tempe Campus in the Fall, and without remote classes I doubt I would be able to move mid-semester as I plan on doing,” said a Trever Irvin, a Bullhead City engineering and computer science student.
