MCC Bighorn Café competition now open, run your own business

MOHAVE COUNTY – People who have a passion for cooking and would like to start their own business, or expand their current business, now have that option. They can compete in the Mohave Community College Bighorn Café Competition.

The grand prize is a 12 month contract for a commercial kitchen located on MCC’s Neal Campus in Kingman. It will be rent-free and includes utilities, along with free business counseling provided by MCC’s Small Business Development Center.

“This competition is a wonderful opportunity to launch a new café or expand your existing restaurant business,” said Lisa Card, SBDC Director. “The SBDC at the college will provide you with access to resources to help be you in the best position for success.”

SBDC will offer various classes that are industry specific, with guest speakers from Mohave County Health Department and an Arizona SBDC Business Analyst who specializes in restaurants and food trucks in Tucson.

The classes will prepare contestants for the final step of the competitions where they will present their business pitch in front of a panel of MCC employees.

Those interested in the competition must sign up as an SBDC client by March 31. To sign up, head online to Mohave.edu/SBDC and click on the Bighorn Café Competition link.

If you have questions, or would like more information, contact SBDC Director Lisa Card at lcard@mohave.edu or call Business Analyst Meghan Borker at (928) 757-0894.
