Local motels fared better last year than other Arizona inns

KINGMAN – Kingman’s motel industry suffered some decline because ten months of last year were impacted by coronavirus pandemic. However, Tourism Services Manager Josh Noble told Economic Development Commissioners this week that Kingman fared better than many other communities.

Noble said Kingman motels averaged 63.5% occupancy in 2020 and that the average room rate charge was just under $69, resulting in a 12% revenue loss compared with the previous year. Noble said many other Arizona communities suffered motel sector revenue loss between 40% and 60% last year.

Noble also told Commissioners that city staff has swapped out marketing and branding slogans, replacing “Go Kingman” with “Explore Kingman” across all social media platforms.
