LAKE HAVASU CITY – The Lake Havasu Classic Outboard Championships makes a comeback this year at the Nautical Beach Resort in Lake Havasu City. Fans of this powerboat racing event may remember this as being the original location when the races made its debut in 1964. The boat racing event is being brought to you by Tim Seebold of Seebold Sports Race Shop. The family-owned business was founded by his grandfather, Bill Seebold, Sr., who built his first boat at the age of 25 and participated in his first race in 1939.
Bill Sr. shared his passion for boat racing with his son, Bill Jr. who eventually passed the legacy on to his own son, Tim. The Formula One Powerboat Championship happens in North America as well, from May to September. It is a six-race series that takes place over a weekend of events for the community and shows off 20+ Formula 1 boats that can achieve speeds of 120 mph. In the U.S., Formula One Racing is known for being the most exhilarating races to watch.
Boat racing fans get a chance to witness world class drivers in nonstop challenges and quick speeds. With the help of social media coverage and live streams, the events can be viewed worldwide and nationally. This has let the series reach millions each season. Initiated by Havasu’s founder Robert P. McCulloch, the outboard championships has become a favorite for locals and tourists as it brings competitors from all over the world. The three-day event has a variety of locations in Lake Havasu where people can view the race.
Other viewing options would be, London Bridge Beach, Rotary Park, Lake Havasu Marina, and of course Thompson Bay where it all began, located at Nautical Beach Resort. Opening day is on Friday, October 27. The kickoff will start at noon with boat testing but you will want to stick around until 4 p.m. for the Friday Night Party. This part of the event will give fans the opportunity to meet their favorite drivers, get autographs, and learn more about the equipment.
There will also be vendors, food, and vintage boat displays. RV camping is allowed however open flame cooking is not. This will be the finale event of the season so you will not want to miss this one. The Lake Havasu Classic Outboard Championship will be from Friday, October 27 through Sunday, October 29.
