KINGMAN – Dozens of injuries, none of them life-threatening, are reported in the crash of a Kingman Unified School District bus in southern Arizona. The Department of Public Safety said the bus was southbound on Interstate 10 in Marana, just north of Tucson, when a southbound SUV struck it on the driver’s side door at about 1:39 p.m. Tuesday.
DPS said the bus rolled on its side in the median of the interstate.
35 Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) students and five adults were aboard the bus that was motoring to an event in Tucson. DPS said 21 students and four adults were transported to area hospitals for evaluation and treatment.
DPS said four people were admitted with serious injuries.
“No fatalities, so that’s a blessing,” Mayor Ken Watkins said as he opened the Kingman City Council meeting.
Kingman Church of the Nazarene Pastor Toni Henry offered prayer.
“We do lift up to you the FBLA students and faculty and their families that were involved in the bus accident,” Henry said. “Please give traveling mercy to the family members that are going down to be with their loved one. Bring quick healing to those that have been injured.”
DPS reported that the SUV driver was arrested. However, the agency did not identify the person or indicate what alleged infraction or crime occurred.
