KINGMAN – The Kingsmen GCPRA Rodeo is back for another mutton-busting, bull-riding-filled festivity. The gates will be open at four on Friday, September 27, and Saturday, September 28. Kingman’s only rodeo will be launching the entertainment at six p.m. at the fairgrounds. Friday’s theme will be patriotic and Saturday’s theme will be Tough Enough to Wear Pink.
With tradition and country at the core of their community, the Kingsmen start off their rodeo with the classic and beloved national anthem as the flag is ridden around the arena. The Kingsmen Rodeo honors all first responders, military, and veterans throughout the event.
For the first time, the Hualapai tribe will be featured in the opening ceremony.
A rodeo clown (barrel man) will be attending the event with their clown act and will be present throughout the experience, making commentary with the announcer. Other events will be featured in the rodeo including mutton busting, calf dressing, barrel racing, steer riding, bull riding and more will take place during this exciting weekend.
The rodeo first started Kingman in 1919. The Kingsmen have since then been holding the rodeo for almost 40 years as The Andy Devine Days Rodeo. The Kingsmen have featured some notable specialty acts, including the One Armed Bandit, John Payne, joining the Kingman rodeo a few times since 1985.
The GCPRA rodeo is the Kingsmen local rodeo, meaning all contestants in the rodeo are real-life cowboys, living their lives growing up on ranches with horses of their own.
Kingsmen member of 25 years, Gordon Sanchez states it’s “the culture and people involved” that really makes the rodeo special. “Honeycutt Rodeos; When they run into town, it’s like family visiting”, says Kingsmen director Tim Curry.
