
KINGMAN – The Kingman Fire Explorer Academy is accepting applications through May 7.
The Fire Explorer Academy is a comprehensive program developed in collaboration with Kingman Fire Department, Western Arizona Vocational Education, Kingman Unified School District and Kingman Academy High School.
The goal of the program is to provide training to high school seniors that have a serious interest in working in the Fire Service. Kingman Fire Department will provide the location, instruction and hands on training were Western Arizona Vocational Education will provide the funding associated with supplies, personal protective equipment and certification testing fees.
The program will meet during a student’s normal afternoon class time and some Fridays. Students will receive over 300 hours of class room and hand on skills training, which exceeds the state requirements. Upon completion, students will have the opportunity to obtain certifications: Firefighter I & II, Basic Wildland Firefighter, Hazmat Awareness & Operations, National Incident Management System and Basic Life Support CPR & First Aid.
