Kansas woman enters plea in case involving 40-pounds of meth found during Kingman traffic stop

Interior of courtroom

KINGMAN — A Wichita, Kansas resident arrested in a 40-pound methamphetamine seizure entered a plea agreement at the Mohave County Law and Justice Center on December 11. Daisy Morales, 24, is convicted of a charge reduced to attempted transportation of dangerous drugs for sale.

The Mohave County Sheriff’s Office said Morales and co-defendant Mario Altamirano, 24, Fresno, California were both arrested on drug charges following a November 6 traffic stop just east of the Kingman City limits. She said the attempted stop was initiated on Interstate 40 and completed once the vehicle drive by Altamirano exited the freeway and pulled over at a gas station.

Deputy county attorney Rod Albright said a search was conducted after a law enforcement K9 alerted on the vehicle. He said 40, 1-lb packages of meth were found in two boxes located in the trunk.

Albright said incriminating drug transaction communications were found in the contents of a cell phone confiscated in the incident, along with more than $1,600 in trafficking related cash.

Morales is eligible for probation but could also get up to 5 years in prison when sentenced January 5 by Judge Megan McCoy. Altamirano’s case is pending.
