Information about incorporation

Dear Editor:

Now that incorporation has been put to bed for a two year nap, here are some observations:

First of all, I am writing this as a private citizen, who has lived in Laughlin since December, 2007.

Praised to you who took the time to read and study SB-213 and AB-389 which offered two different approaches, so that you would know what was in the bills and what was not in them. Thus you could make your decision with truthful information, and did not have to depend on rumors or half-truths.

Shame on you if you didn’t read and study the bills, as you would not have been a well-informed citizen able to weigh the pluses and minuses of each measure.

Double shame on you if you opposed cityhood without even looking at the pros and cons, and outright refuse to read whatever measures are presented for your consideration.

One of the most frequent comments was, “We don’t know what it will cost.” Yes, all of us wanted a true neutral third-party fiscal analysis, which requires Clark County administrators to be fully transparent in how much they receive from us and how much they spend on us.

SB-213, for example, required this feasibility study before the City Council/Mayor vote. AB-389, being a mirror of the 2011 bill upon which the 2012 vote was cast, did not.

As to who would pay for that study, the Fort Mohave Valley Development Act specifically states the act can be used to pay for such a study.
