Today, June 17, 2025, we gathered to honor Rep. John Lewis, a man who dedicated and risked his life for the right to vote, for justice, for dignity.
He did not fight with fists — he fought with courage. He called us to respond to injustice, calling it “good trouble” – to stand up peacefully when things are not right.
I am 73 years old. I raised three children and now have seven grandchildren. I have worked hard all my life, and I still show up because I care about what kind of country we are leaving for them.
If some react negatively to my showing up in support of these causes, so be it. I would rather be called names for standing up than stay silent while our rights, our environment, and our communities are torn apart.
You do not have to agree with me. But I ask you: for what are you fighting? Is it to build something better? And yes, I will keep showing up because I love this country enough to believe we can do and be better. And I believe deep down, you do too.
