Zachary Holmes
LAKE HAVASU CITY – The first of four people charged in a Lake Havasu City motel invasion and robbery incident has entered a plea agreement that will spare him from prison, provided he complies with terms of probation. Zachary Holmes, 25, Kingman, is convicted of armed robbery in the plea deal unveiled Friday, July 19 before Judge Billy Sipe.
Burglary and aggravated assault charges are dismissed in the agreement that requires Judge Sipe to place Holmes on supervised probation at an Aug. 15 sentencing hearing. Holmes will also be released from custody that day, after spending nearly three months at the Adult Detention Center in Kingman.
Co-defendants awaiting trial include Elizabeth Janca, 32, Lake Havasu, Caleb Crandall, 27, Kingman, and Beau Newbiggin, 29, a transient.
Deputy Mohave County Attorney Jeff Haws informed the Court that Janca spent the night with the 40-year-old victim at the Studio 6 Suites, 1330 McCulloch Boulevard, and that she let her three male co-defendants into the room the morning of May 23. Haws said firearms and simulated weapons were pointed at the victim as the trio grabbed his wallet, personal items and his keys before fleeing in the man’s vehicle.
Haws said the victim chased the invader-robbers and used rocks to break at least one of the windows of his Dodge Durango as it drove away. Responding police arrested one suspect in the 100 block of Swanson Avenue, while the others were located in the downtown area of McCulloch Boulevard.
Haws said Holmes was enticed into the invasion scenario when he was told it was a revenge visit because the victim had been sexually abusing a woman. He said Holmes was armed with a BB gun at the crime scene.
