LAKE HAVASU — A relatively short prison term, extensive probation and life-long sex offender registration protocols were ordered Monday for a Lake Havasu City man tried twice for alleged sex offenses involving two underage females.
The first trial in April for Thomas Workman, 50, ended in a hung jury before a second trial unfolded resulting in mixed verdicts in late May. The second trial jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on a continuous sexual abuse of a child charge involving one minor while it convicted Workman of three sexual conduct with a minor charges involving another girl.
“What you did to me was wrong,” she said, noting she was just 13-years old when victimized years ago. “You carved a scar into my life that I did not ask for or deserve.”
The young woman said she was used and dehumanized and she asked for the maximum punishment possible. Workman declined comment when asked if he wished to make a statement prior to sentencing.
Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle ordered a two-year prison term, followed by 20 years probation, stating Workman should be subjected to long-term supervision when released.
