LAKE HAVASU CITY — There is no better chance than now to learn the art of line dancing at Angie’s Line Dancing Classes, especially if you’re a beginner.  Initially from Salt Lake City, Utah, dance instructor Angie Horton began her love of dance by participating in her high school’s drill team.

By age 21, she found herself taking an interest in the line dancing scene by strutting her steps at locations such as Sandy and The Westerner. It was a hobby that lasted for the next 15 years of her life.  Becoming a mortgage realtor, Horton walked away from social dancing to raise her daughter and dedicate herself to the new career.

In 2019, Horton moved to Lake Havasu and got a job at AZ Elks Lodge.  Now retired and wanting to revisit her former line dancing days, Horton became aware that aside from the weekly lessons taught at local venues like Mustang Sallys and the Flying X Saloon, there were not any classes intended just for beginners.

With the permission of her employer, Horton began providing lessons for the community.  Throughout the years, the success of the free instructions began to take off and Horton found herself teaching at more Havasu venues like Veterans of Foreign War, Blondzees Steakhouse, and Iron Wolf Golf and Country Club.

Due to Horton’s leisurely pace of teaching, she refers to herself as a “dance whisperer” as she really takes the time to make sure that all participants are grasping the steps in the right manner.  With the typical number of attendees ranging from 80 to 100, walk-ins are always welcome.

If you’re looking for a fun family night out, children from ages 6 to 17, can also take part.

From now until the end of this month, Horton will be providing lessons at The Shops at Lake Havasu’s Northside Grill at 5601 AZ-95 each Wednesday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm.

These Wednesday classes will change to Ironwood Golf and Country Club starting on October 1.  For extreme rookies, the dance teacher offers an Ultra beginning option each Thursday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm at Grapes N Grains at 2187 McCulloch Blvd North.

You can also visit Horton’s upcoming classes on her Facebook page at  (16) Facebook.  Horton enjoys giving high spirits to the public as a way to give back and promote general wellness.

“Bring joy to the community is my absolute favorite.  It’s my version of community service.  Dancing is awesome for physical health for the mind and body,” Horton said.
