LAKE HAVASU CITY – As temperatures continue to escalate, some may want to participate in some fun indoor activities to escape the intense sun rays. This is one of the many reasons why Lake Havasu’s new nonprofit, I Love Lake Havasu, will be hosting their first Havasu Sourdough Bake-Off fundraiser.
I Love Lake Havasu will be giving the community the chance to test out their sourdough baking skills. The competition will test who can cut the first ear, stretch the best dough, and of course rate whose products are the most delicious.
Rules of the contest are pretty straight forward. All products must be made by the baker in Lake Havasu.
Categories for entries will range from best overall classic and sourdough recipes, along with the best overall sourdough. Awards provided will be for Best in Show, Best Ear, and Best Pattern. Participants will be able to obtain the Best Baker in Havasu title. Entry fees for each baker will be $20. Tickets to participate in the cook-off can be accessed by visiting https://www.eventbrite.com/e/1st-annual-havasu-sourdough-bake-off-tickets. Submissions will be accepted between 8 and 11 a.m. on the day of the event. Sourdough judging will begin at noon.
The sourdough bake-off event will be on Sunday, July 28 from 10 a.m. to noon at Nomadic Coworking Space. I Love Lake Havasu founder Shawn Lawless chose this time of year to create an event that can get people out of the summer temperatures; however, there is more of a charitable reason behind it.
“With the winter visitors not being around right now, the Havasu Community Health Foundation’s food banks suffer a great deal between June to the end of August, so we will be donating all proceeds of this event to their local food bank,” said Lawless.
