LAKE HAVASU CITY – The San Gabriel Fire Valley Department (SGVDF), is bringing firefighter cancer awareness to Lake Havasu City with their Fire Hogs Motorcycle Club Don Shawver Memorial Ride (SGVDF) on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 27 and 28.
Don Shawver was a retired firefighter with the Arcadia Fire Department. Shawver passed away due to job-related cancer. He had a love of motorcycles and the Shawver family along with the San Gabriel Valley Fire Hogs, came together to put together a memorial ride.
SGVDF Fire Hogs MC is made up of fire departments in the San Gabriel Valley area. Their members bring enjoyment for riding along with charitable events. Their annual charity rides strengthen the relationships of communities while creating a favorable influence with all of their endeavors.
SGVDF has hosted several charitable events such as their Annual Fallen Heroes Memorial and City of Hope Walk in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month.
On Friday, Oct. 27, SGVDF will be meeting in the Bridgewater Channel at 8:30 a.m. before going to the lake for their poker run stops. The poker runs can take place by boat or land.
On Saturday, Oct. 28, SGVDF will hit the road, meeting at Breakwater Grill to collect poker hands at 8 a.m. The ride will end with a return to Breakwater Grill for a raffle drawing and fundraising that will go towards the Firefighter Cancer Support Network and Lake Havasu Firefighter Charities.
The award ceremony is open to nonriders who wish to join in and view the drawing.
Poker hands have no limit on the amount of hands and need to be purchased the prior day of each event.
