Father shoots son after argument

KINGMAN – A local man was arrested for shooting his son during a lunch hour dispute last Friday. Police responded at 12:45 p.m. to the incident in the 3500 block of North Adams Street.

Deputy Kingman Police Chief Joel Freed said 66-year-old Scott Van Hook shot his 39-year-old son following an argument about the son being asked to move out of his father’s residence.

“Investigators learned that the altercation between the family members ended with Van Hook firing one round, striking the victim in the chest,” Freed said. “Medical aid was given to the victim on scene and he was ultimately transported to Kingman Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries.”

Van Hook reportedly admitted his involvement in the shooting. He was arrested and jailed at the Adult Detention facility on an attempted second-degree murder charge.
