GRAND CANYON — The Dragon Bravo Fire at the North Rim of the Grand Canyon is now at 4% and is estimated at 94,228 acres. This is down from 9% contained on Tuesday. The White Sage fire is still at 83% contained and is estimated at 59,070.
Highlights: Tuesday’s infrared mapping provided updated acreage as the Dragon Bravo Fire continues its northward push amid extreme fire behavior. Operations focused on holding Forest Road 610, improving indirect lines, and firing operations to protect values at risk. Southwest Complex Incident Management Team 2 is still taking a full suppression approach to the Dragon Bravo, while prioritizing firefighter and public safety.
Operations: The fire is advancing through dry fuels to the north. Southeast of the fire, crews continue reducing hazard trees along Cape Royal Road and Point Imperial Road to access critical areas like the Walhalla Plateau. Fuel reduction work is underway along Forest Road 213 for future control line. Work also continues along Forest Road 22, west of State Route 67 to strengthen fire lines and protect values at risk. Firing operations are planned along the east side of State Route 67 to bring the fire into more favorable ground and reduce impacts near developed areas like the Kaibab Lodge Gas Station. Structure protection groups continue to work around the Kaibab Lodge, entrance station, Buffalo Ranch, and other assets.
Weather and Smoke: Today’s forecast calls for even stronger winds than Tuesday, along with critically low humidity. Outlooks remain dry and gusty heading into the weekend. Smoke will remain visible from surrounding areas, including the South Rim of the Grand Canyon. Residents and visitors impacted by the smoke are encouraged to monitor local air quality conditions at outlooks.wildlandfiresmoke.net.
Evacuations & Closures: Information about current closures on Grand Canyon National Park can be found on the National Park Service website at https://www.nps.gov/grca/northrimstatus.htm. The North Rim of Grand Canyon National Park will remain closed for the duration of the 2025 season. U.S. Route 89A has reopened, though Grand Canyon Highway (State Route 67) remains closed. Kaibab Camper Village and Jacob Lake Inn and gas station are now open. The rest of the forest, including the Jacob Lake Campground, remains closed.
