Dolan man shoots mom

DOLAN SPRINGS – A man admitted shooting his mother at the home they shared in Dolan Springs, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). Deputies responded at 11:31 a.m. on Wednesday, February 26 to conduct a welfare check in the 18000 block of Mariposa Drive.
MCSO public information specialist Anita Mortensen said deputies made contact with Randolph Cornell, 64, and observed his 82-year-old mother laying in a hallway, suffering from multiple gunshot wounds. She said Cornell was detained and that deputies implemented life saving measures.
Mortensen said responding fire department personnel also aided the victim who was flown to a Las Vegas hospital where she was listed in critical condition. She said detectives learned that Cornell shot his mother multiple times during an argument, and that he left her unattended for more than an hour before a friend arrived to pick her up.
Mortensen said Cornell prevented the man from helping the wounded woman.
“Cornell then allegedly assaulted the friend and broke his cell phone,” Mortensen said. “The friend then went to a local establishment where he called for help.”
Cornell was transported to Kingman and booked into the Adult Detention Facility for attempted murder, aggravated assault and other charges. Investigation continues.
