Deputy injured during chase

A deputy suffered minor leg injuries after a law enforcement vehicle pursuit from La Paz County ventured north into Mohave County Wednesday, Feb. 4. Spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said the Mohave County Sheriff’s office was notified at 7:20 p.m. that the  chase of a 2016 Mini Cooper entered south Mohave County near the Bill Williams Bridge on Highway 95.
Mortensen said the suspect vehicle entered and quickly exited Cattail Cove State Park where a La Paz County sheriff’s deputy was staged near the entrance.

“The deputy positioned himself outside of his vehicle attempting to stop the suspect,” Mortensen said. “During this attempt, the deputy suffered injuries to one of his legs.”
Mortensen said the suspect, 65-year-old Patrick Kalember, Bouse, drove north on highway 95 at a high rate of speed, avoiding stop sticks that were placed in the roadway to flatten his tires. “Deputies lost sight of the vehicle in the area of highway 95 and Oro Grande,” she said.
Mortensen said Kalmebar was taken into custody without incident at a Lake Havasu City convenience market at about 11:30 p.m. He was booked into the Mohave County Adult Detention Center on charges including aggravated assault of an officer, unlawful flight, possession of drug paraphernalia and possession of a weapon during the commission of a drug related offense.

The injured deputy was released following treatment at a local hospital.
