Death leaves BHC council seat vacant

BULLHEAD CITY – Interested and eligible Bullhead City residents are invited to submit applications and letters of interest for possible appointment to the seat left vacant by the death of Vice Mayor Kathy Bruck. The council veteran died in hospice care Tuesday, Oct.5 after suffering a massive stroke on Thursday, Sept. 30.

Application materials must be submitted by Oct. 29 before they’ll be reviewed by a yet-to-be appointed committee. Mayor Tom Brady said the panel will interview candidates and make appointment recommendations to the council.

Brady said the process could lead to an appointment decision in one of the two November council meetings before Thanksgiving. The eventual appointee would serve until the end of next year, before voters will once again populate the council.

“We’re going to have 5 seats up in the November (2022) election. 2 will be 4-year terms, two will be two-year terms and one will be for mayor,” Brady said. He long ago announced he would retire rather than seek another term of office in next year’s election cycle.

“I will be watching from my easy chair,” Brady said.
