Cyclist killed in cow crash

LAKE HAVASU CITY – A Lake Havasu City man was fatally injured when the motorcycle he was operating struck a cow north of Kingman last Thursday, Dec. 7, according to the Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO). Agency spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said deputies responded at 6:15 p.m. to the accident in the vicinity of milepost 27 on Stockton Hill Road.

The accident victim has been identified as Ryan Eckhardt, 64.

A civilian told deputies of coming upon the crash scene and witnessing a cow getting up and leaving the area.

“The motorcycle operator received life-threatening injuries from the collision and was pronounced deceased on scene by first responders,” Mortensen said. “Vehicle damage and collision dynamics indicate that the operator of the motorcycle struck the cow and was thrown from the motorcycle.”

Mortensen said a helmet was located at the scene but that it apparently had not been worn by Eckhardt at the time of the collision. The accident investigation continues.
