County Corner

Greetings from Lydia Durst, your Mohave County Recorder.

As the General Election is quickly approaching, we have a lot to tell you before Election Day on November 5. With a fully staffed office, and the dedicated temporary early voting workers, the voter registration team predicts a successful election this month!

As we enter October, the Voter Registration Division is in full-election mode! The Voter Registration deadline is October 7, so any voters who still need to update their information for the upcoming General Election will need to reach out to the office ASAP!

October 9 marks the first day of early voting and kicks off the General Election this year! Almost  93,000 Early  Ballots will be mailed out and in-person early voting also opens! If you receive your ballot by mail, please vote your ballot and return it to us at your earliest convenience. We must receive your signed and completed early ballot, no later than 7 p.m. on Election night if it to count!

Although the election is the main priority, our goal to keep the voter rolls clean remains, and we continue to work on ensuring our voter registration files remain current.

During October, it is crucial that if you receive a piece of mail from our office that is not addressed to a member of your household, or is addressed to someone who has passed away, remember to write “Return to Sender” and place it back in your mailbox. This will inform us of any voter movement and can help keep Mohave County’s voter rolls clean! We especially want to remind you that our office will be sending out ballots on a continual basis for the first half of October, and that returning election mail to our office helps everyone in the county!

If voters are unsure of the status of their voter registration, early ballot, or polling location, always visit My.Arizona.Vote. This is a great resource for voters who need the information listed about, but do not have time to contact our office directly.

If you receive your ballot by mail or vote at an early voting site, you must sign the affidavit envelope that you place your ballot in. We cannot count your vote without your signature because this is how we verify that you voted the ballot you received in the mail. Each signature is verified before we can accept your ballot. We also recommend you sign the affidavit envelope the same way you signed your driver’s license or use your most common signature. If we cannot verify that the signature belongs to you, we make every attempt to contact you

Thank you and happy Early Voting!

The Recording Division makes great strides within the county and continues its endeavor to assist all residents with the recording of property related documents. Residents can view recorded documents and request copies through the online self-service portal, accessible via this link: https://www.mohave.gov/departments/recorder/recording/.

The Recorder’s Office self-service Recorded Document Alert program seeks to prevent residents from becoming victims of property fraud here in Mohave County! To register with Fraud Guard online, visit https://eaglerss.mohave.gov/web/fraudGuard/disclaimerPage.

As a long-term project, the Recorder’s Office team is working diligently on Historical Indexing. Although they have recently finished the indexing for 1988, the 55,000 documents dated in 1987 will need to be properly indexed before being fully accessible to the public.

Historical Indexing is an important way that the Recorder’s Office provides yet another way for citizens to access important property related information. While each year of indexing can take upwards of a year, the ends result proves beneficial to both the Recorder’s team and citizens.

As of now, the office plans on continuing this effort until documents have been indexed all the way back to 1972. We hope that the public will be just as elated as our office when this process is completed!
