County attorney seeks arrest in Shuffler case

KINGMAN – Efforts to resolve a high-profile criminal prosecution involving the deaths of two teenagers in a high speed traffic accident by plea agreement are not bearing fruit and attorneys will argue their first contested motion in the case against Brady Shuffler Wednesday.

The Kingman teenager faces numerous felony offenses, including two second-degree murder charges for the April 13 deaths of Tatum Meins, 17, and Sherene “Siri’’ Walema, 15. Authorities allege Shuffler, 16, was impaired by marijuana and was driving in excess of 100 miles per hour when the girls were ejected and fatally injured when the defendant lost control and rolled the 2020 Dodge Charger Scat Pack Widebody he was driving.

Shuffler has been out of custody and completing high school course work online while his criminal case is pending. But the Mohave County Attorney’s Office has asked that Shuffler be arrested and that he be subjected to more restrictive release conditions going forward.

“The state alleges that the defendant used alcohol in violation of his release conditions as evidenced by test results provided by the Probation Department from a test administered on Nov. 11,” said Deputy Mohave County Attorney James Schoppmann in his release condition motion. “A copy of the test results has been provided to the defendant.”

Defense attorney Brad Rideout said he’ll respond to Schoppmann’s motion during the 10 a.m. Wednesday hearing. Rideout said he also expects Judge Carlisle to schedule the case for trial since he and Schoppmann have made no progress with plea negotiations.
