LAKE HAVASU CITY – Whether you’re an avid collector of antiques or just seeking to try a new hobby, pay a visit to the Lake Havasu and Coin Club and discover a variety of collections that you’ve never seen before. The club was formed in Lake Havasu 35 years ago by Washington D.C. native Harold Whitt who has been a retiree to Lake Havasu for several decades.
Whitt has been collecting since he was seven years old in 1939. His favorite ones are buffalo nickels, and many of the nickels that Whitt has collected over years date all the way back to the 1860s. The club is open to the public and they are especially pleased to see parents bringing their children to learn about vintage nickels, dimes, and quarters from all over the world.
The meeting consists of about 40 members showing off their newly found coins and sharing their stories while swapping and trading coins. There aren’t fees to participate however, Whitt mails out monthly newsletters to any members interested in getting the latest scoop on distinctive coins selections and where they can be discovered. The newsletter cost is just $12 a month. Individuals interested in learning more about the club are more than welcome to contact Harold Whitt directly at 928-855-2777.
The Lake Havasu Coin Club meets every second Thursday of the month at 2:30 p.m. at The Lake Havasu City Library. Their next upcoming meeting will be on Thursday, September 12. Stop in and explore the unique collections the coin club has accumulated over the years.
