City drainage problems discussed at forum

KINGMAN – On October 29, the City of Kingman and JE Fuller Hydrology & Geomorphology Inc. held a public open house at the City of Kingman City Hall as Phase 1 of Kingman Area Master Plan (KADMP). Eric Sparkman, Assistant City Engineer, and the members of JE Fuller team explained the phases for the Drainage Master Plan as well as provided possible flood area maps. KADMP is made up of three separate phases.

Phase 1 is Data Gathering and Hydrologic/Hydraulic Analysis. In this phase the goal is to fully understand the primary drainage problems of the City of Kingman. This includes gaining information from the citizens about past flooding issues they’ve experienced and examining current flow patterns. This phase concluded after the public open house and data from that was collected.

Phase 2 is called Conceptual Solution Development. Data will be used in this phase to develop solutions that will lessen the gravity of drainage issues. With an awaited completion date of February 2020, the solutions range from local drainage infrastructure plans to large regional type projects.

Development of a conceptual plan is Phase 3 of KADMP. After several conceptual solutions have been made, JE Fuller will prioritize those that will benefit the community and move forward with conceptual planning. At this point JE Fuller will provide the city with well-done solutions and cost estimates for construction and future drainage projects. Another public open house will be held close to the end of this phase to show solutions to the community. This phase is due to completion in April 2020.

Any public input is welcome and the city of Kingman encourages it.
