MOHAVE COUNTY – The U.S. Department of Education has designated Mohave Community College as a Hispanic Serving Institution (HSI).  An accredited higher education institution qualifies as an HSI when at least 25% of its enrollment is Hispanic or Latino students.  Nearly 27% of students currently enrolled at MCC identify as Hispanic/Latino, a percentage that started increasing in 2009. According to the Hispanic Association of Colleges & Universities, Arizona has a total of 21 Hispanic Serving Institutions, and as HSIs, they have the opportunity to apply for more federal grants to better serve their students and communities.  Across MCC’s four campuses, the…

LAKE HAVASU CITY – At approximately 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, the Lake Havasu City Fire Department responded to a desert rescue at the Sara Park hiking trails. A hiker was unable to hike back to the trailhead and needed medical care. The hiker was located and received medical care from Fire Department personnel. Due to the rough terrain where the hiker was located, a medical helicopter was called for transport to the hospital. Another person in the party was able to safely hike back to the trailhead.

KINGMAN – On Monday, Nov. 6, at about 9:51 a.m., Mohave County Sheriff’s Office (MCSO) deputies were notified of a suspicious package located at the Mohave County Library in Kingman. During the course of their usual duties, library staff located the package in the book return drop box located outside of the building and notified law enforcement. The library was evacuated, and the immediate area was closed off for safety concerns. Bomb squad technicians from Kingman Police Department and Lake Havasu City Police Department responded to the scene to remove and investigate the package. Once removed from the drop box, the…
