County animal shelter will run as planned

MOHAVE COUNTY – Mohave County supervisors took no action before adjourning Tuesday’s special board meeting within a few minutes of its start. Future operation of the animal shelter in downtown Kingman was the only issue before the board. The board voted June 3 to transition the shelter to a county-run facility because the current contract operator, the Lake Havasu City-based Western Arizona Humane Society (WAHS), previously indicated it did not want its contract extended beyond June 30 and no other providers indicated interest in overseeing the shelter. WAHS, however, subsequently expressed interest in running the shelter if the Board of…

Mohave Electric Company responded to handle a downed power line that was arcing in the back yard. “Utilizing the deck gun, firefighters were able to attack the blaze aggressively allowing crews to make an entry for the interior fire attack,” Viles said. “Additional manpower performed an aggressive offensive attack through the rear doors.” Once the fire was brought…

Power outage disrupts business, government offices

KINGMAN – A power outage disrupted some government operations in downtown Kingman Tuesday. The Mohave County Courthouse, a number of county offices and Kingman City Hall lost power at 2:25 p.m. The county administration facility was minimally impacted because Information Technology Director Nathan McDaniel said the phone and computer systems have backup power capability so employees can keep working during a service interruption. Local Unisource Energy Electrical operations director Lynne Petersen said the outage impacted about 480 customers, but that most had service restored by shortly after 3:00 p.m. She said switching efforts by technicians helped bring most customers back…
