Bullhead City provides sandbags in preparation for monsoon season storms

Residents fill sandbags at Rotary Park in Preparation for Hurricane Hilary last year.

BULLHEAD CITY – The City of Bullhead City is providing free sandbags to the community in preparation for the monsoon season.

“We just want to be proactive,” said Bullhead City Manager Toby Cotter. “Last year we started providing sand when the National Weather Service warned us we were in the path of a hurricane, and the community only had a few days to prepare. This year, we’re putting out sand now to be ready for anything the monsoon season might throw at us.”

The free sandbags are limited to 10 per household and are available to all local households.

“Our primary goal is to help our residents,” said Cotter. “However, we know there may be people in Ft Mohave and Laughlin who need sand as well, and they’re welcome to ten bags.”

Similar to last year, the sand will be available for pickup at Bullhead City’s Rotary Park, under the large Ramada just north of Firebird Field. It will be provided on a self-serve basis, with staff on-site to provide assistance.

Different from last year, the sand will be available for pickup starting Tuesday, August 6, through Tuesday, August 20, from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on weekdays and 7 a.m. to 10 a.m. on weekends.

“We hope everyone who needs it takes advantage of the assistance before the weather reports say it’s necessary,” said Cotter. “Our monsoonal weather can be unpredictable.”
