Beck, guilty of DV assault, gets off with probation

KINGMAN – A local judge has granted the defense request for probation rather than prison for a Golden Valley man who assaulted the mother of his two children. Samuel Beck, 32 pleaded guilty to aggravated assault for the violence last October.

Prosecutor Bob Moon called it a vicious attack that warranted substantial jail time as a term of four years’ probation imposed during a March 4 sentencing hearing. Moon said Beck head-butted, choked and repeatedly punched the woman in front of their children at their home in the 7200 block of Zuni Drive.

“He beat the living snot out of her,” Moon said. “He has a problem that he obviously can’t control.”

Defense attorney Keshav Deodhar countered that Beck is engaged in anger management counseling. He said Beck is working at Walmart and is committed to self-betterment and providing for the family.

“I take full responsibility for my actions,” Beck said.

The victim expressed support for Beck and her wish that he not be incarcerated.

Judge Doug Camacho said victim input is an important punishment consideration. He gave Beck credit for 13 days served and ordered that no further jail time will be imposed, provided he complies with terms of probation.
