Barricaded man dies from self-inflicted gunshot

KINGMAN – Kingman police have released more details of a barricaded subject ordeal that ended in a civilian suicide on Friday, Nov. 6. Police department spokeswoman Jennifer Sochocki said it was determined that Earl Hendrix, 37, died of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Sochocki said offers responded at 10:35 a.m. to a domestic violence incident in the 2000 block of Simms Avenue. She said it was learned that Hendrix had assaulted his mother, threatened his father and made suicidal statements before Hendrix barricaded himself inside his home in the 1700 block of Los Angeles St.

“Officers responded to the area, created a perimeter and blocked off the area roadways while giving commands to the subject to exit the residence,” Sochocki said. “During attempts to have the subject exit the residence a single gunshot was heard by officers on scene.”

Sochocki said officers conducted a search after no response came from the home some two hours after the gunshot. She said the department’s bomb squad robot was deployed and located Hendrix dead of a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Sochocki said alcohol may have played a part in Hendrix’ behavior and that neither of his parents were injured.
