KINGMAN – Police believe monsoon season storm activity was a factor in a Wednesday, Aug. 7, crash during which a 2001 Ford sedan came to rest upside down on Andy Devine Avenue. Deputy Police Chief Rusty Cooper said the incident occurred about 5:20 p.m. in the 400 block of the thoroughfare. Cooper the sedan operated by a 75-year-old Kingman woman veered into the lane of a 2018 Cadillac that was also eastbound.  “The vehicles made slight contact, at which point the driver of the Ford sedan made corrective action which caused her vehicle to pitch and roll,” Cooper said. Kino Avenue Waterline Project to start, lane closures will be in effect

KINGMAN – A project to install a new water transmission main on Kino Ave., between Arizona Street to the Mohave Wash, starts August 12. Portions of Kino Ave. will be closed throughout the project, with the first closure starting at Arizona St. through Roosevelt St., and should last two weeks, barring any weather delays. Detours will be in place for street closures. Cliff diving ends in fatality

LAKE HAVASU – A cliff diving fatality is reported on the Colorado River. Mohave County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Anita Mortensen said a Havasu Lake, California man went missing early Thursday afternoon after a 30-foot leap from a cliff near the “Sandbar” north of Lake Havasu. Mortensen said divers located and recovered the body of the apparent drowning victim at 4:09 p.m., about three hours after the fatal jump. The victim is identified as Dane Jay shields, 28.

KINGMAN – Management of the Northern Arizona Consolidated Fire District (NACFD) is transitioning to the management team of City of Kingman Fire Department Chief Jake Rhoades. An intergovernmental agreement detailing the arrangement was approved August 6 by the Kingman Council, following previous approval of the NACFD governing board. Sloan convicted of child’s death

A young woman from West Jordan, Utah faces a possible prison sentence after pleading guilty in a traffic accident that claimed the life of a ten year old girl. Merissa Sloan, 22, will be convicted of causing death by use of a vehicle under terms of the plea deal unveiled Tuesday. The agreement would dismiss a negligent homicide charge associated with the April 29, 2018 single vehicle traffic accident at mp 15 on highway 68.
