‘Polar Bears’ come out for New Year

KINGMAN – The “Polar Bears” of Kingman kicked off the new year with their 19th annual Polar Bear Plunge, hosted by the Kingman Parks and Recreation staff on the first afternoon of 2020. The air outside was a cool 44 degrees, and the Centennial Pool water was a frigid 38 degrees. The young and old of our community enjoyed a few moments of bliss before taking their plunge into the freezing water. Frozen plungers warmed back up afterwards with free hot showers, popcorn, and hot cocoa.

BULLHEAD CITY – Fire Marshal Jim Dykens has retired from Bullhead Fire after 42 years in the fire service. Chief Dykens began his fire service career in October 1977 in the United States Air Force. Serving as an active-duty firefighter for eight years, then serving for the Air Force as a civilian firefighter for nine years. Traveling in the military as most members do, he served in England, Mississippi, Washington, Alaska, Nevada, and Utah. Dear Editor, The Greenhouse effect is not feasible because Co2 does not hold heat for long periods of time when separated from it’s heat source. Much of air pollution that is emitted falls to the ground, becomes smog, and is absorbed into the ground. Much of it is also dissipated and diluted by air. Raw Co2 is therefore the prominent chemical element. As stated before, Co2 does not trap heat for long after being separated from it’s heat source, almost immediately in fact. Mohave County Sheriff K-9 Foundation Board Member Ray McCool is all smiles after receiving a $1,000 check from Jessi Brent and Dan Nemphos, owners of the T-Mobile store in Kingman, on Saturday, Dec. 28. Brant and Nemphos, residents of Bullhead City, donated $1,000 to the K-9 Foundation to be used for the purchase of new K-9s, K-9 training schools. Food, vet care (medications and severe-injury-health insurance), all other associated costs including specialized equipment and training certificates, and they are handled through the foundation. MOHAVE COUNTY – Classic and custom vehicles, and hundreds of spectators from around the tri-state area are expected to converge on the K9 Car and Bike Show during January.
