Superior Court Clerk position remains open; deadline for applying has been extended

MOHAVE COUNTY – Arizona Governor Doug Ducey has extended the timeline for filling the vacancy created by last month’s resignation of Virlynn Tinnell as Clerk of Mohave County Superior Court. Presiding Judge Charles Gurtler promoted deputy director Christina Spurlock to serve as interim Clerk until the Governor can fill the post by appointment. Applications were initially required by May 17 but the deadline for making application has been extended to June 4. Governor spokesman C.J. MOHAVE COUNTY – The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) has conveyed approximately 141 acres of public land located adjacent to the Colorado City Airport to the Town of Colorado City, for airport use. Powerline Fire Cause of Internet/Cell Phone Outage

KINGMAN – Due to an internet and cell outage, the Kingman City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday May 18, was canceled. Agenda items will be postponed to future meetings. At 4:22 p.m. on May 18, units from the Kingman Fire Department (KFD) and Northern Arizona Fire District (NAFD) were dispatched for a powerline down, followed by a call for a brushfire in the same area, and then upgraded to a commercial structure fire. The total response was four engines; two from each agency.  Once on scene on scene, advising of a tarp in the powerline with brushfire threatening a nearby business…

County libraries slowly coming back to life following COVID shutdown

KINGMAN – Patrons have responded slowly since Mohave County began ramping up service following last month’s directive by the board of supervisors to reopen public libraries. Once a month bookmobile service to outlying areas resumed Tuesday in Yucca followed by Wikieup on Thursday and Arizona strip communities on May 25 and 26. “We’ve got our libraries open for browsing,” Library Director Kathy Pennell reported during Monday’s board meeting. “We’ve got computers on the floor for public use.
