Animal Care & Welfare making a difference in the Bullhead community

Bullhead City Animal Care & Welfare (ACW) and T.L.C. (Tender Loving Care) Veterinary Services continue to make a difference in the community by providing affordable vaccine and animal wellness clinics for pet owners.

From July 2018 to May 2019,veterinarian services were provided to 729 pet owners and administered 1,523 vaccinations. (521 rabies, 446 distemper/parvo, 431 bordetella, 67 feline distemper, and 58 leukemia). The clinics also provided deworming medication for 379 animals, inserted 75 microchips, and performed 14 wellness exams.

“Residents should take advantage of these low cost clinics where services are performed by a licensed veterinarian,” said Bradley Oliver, Support Services Division Manager /Animal Care & Welfare Bureau Manager. “Getting your pet licensed and vaccinated against rabies is not only required, but helps keep your pet healthy. T.L.C. also offers other vaccines and health care services for cats and dogs.”

Owning a pet comes with many responsibilities. Before adopting, please remember these things about responsible pet ownership:

· Lifelong care for the pet. This means committing to the relationship for your pet’s entire life.

·Ensuring the pet is properly identified (tags, microchip etc) and keep it up-to-date.

·Adhering to local animal ordinances, including license and leash requirements.

·Helping manage overpopulation by controlling your pet/s reproduction through containment and spay or neuter.

·  Providing preventative (vaccination and parasite control) and other health care by consulting a licensed veterinarian.

ACW and T.L.C. offer low cost vaccines and health care on the second and fourth Thursday of every month. The next clinics will be on Thursday, July 11 and 25 from 9 a.m. – 12 noon at the Bullhead City Animal Care and Welfare shelter, 2270 Trane Road.
