American Red Cross announces new CEO for AZ NM region

The American Red Cross has announced that Edgar R. Olivo will be joining the Arizona and New Mexico American Red Cross team as the next Regional Chief Executive Officer. Edgar brings valuable experience to the Red Cross, having served as a dedicated board member for the Central and Northern Arizona chapter since 2021, actively contributing to humanitarian causes.

“I’ve had the pleasure of working with Edgar on the Central and Northern Arizona Board,” said American Red Cross Board Chair Jim Olson. “He is deeply embedded in community efforts and has a strong desire to ensure resilience.”

Edgar’s a distinguished leader in Arizona known for promoting economic prosperity and social equality and for significantly impacting Arizona’s Hispanic community.

“It is both an honor and a humbling experience to have the opportunity to lead our community in my new role at the American Red Cross, an organization of immense significance in our region,” said Edgar Olivo. “I am genuinely excited about the prospect of working alongside our team, volunteers, as well as community leaders and government officials to achieve our shared goal of serving and strengthening our communities in Arizona and New Mexico.”

Edgar is the founder of the non-profit Compass CBS Foundation based in Scottdale. During his tenure, Edgar supported hundreds of small businesses during the pandemic, enabling them to access crucial financial assistance by providing rapid training resources in English and Spanish. Edgar’s Foundation also partners with the City of Phoenix Public Library and the Consulate General of Mexico in Phoenix to drive economic development. In addition, Edgar developed the Going Green and Going Smart Program, promoting sustainability among Arizona’s small businesses.

Edgar’s influence extends to the media serving as a spokesperson for the American Red Cross as well as showcasing his talents as a writer and producer on a live podcast in partnership with Univision Arizona.

On Social Justice issues, Edgar serves on state and federally funded boards of organizations that support humanities education, cultural enrichment and LGBTQ causes.

As Regional CEO of the Red Cross, Edgar plans on being the leading force in our community, building a diverse and inclusive volunteer team that reflects the rich tapestry of our region. Edgar will also focus on driving successful blood donations to save lives and empowering citizens with disaster preparedness training. Ending human suffering is at the core of his decision-making and actions along with fostering a community of compassion, kindness and appreciation for humanity and our environment.
