Manager Mike Hendrix has informed the Mohave County Board of Supervisors that staff is preparing to transition to Mohave County operation of the animal shelter located in downtown Kingman. During the May 17 budget workshop, Hendrix told supervisors that the Lake Havasu City-based Western Arizona Humane Society (WAHS) no longer wants to operate the shelter through contract with the county. All seven full-time employees of Go Lake Havasu, which provides destination marketing to Lake Havasu City, have earned their certification as Autism Travel Professionals. The certification process involved a four-hour online training session and exam created by the International Board of Credentialing and Continuing Education Standards (IBCCES). In an effort to save more lives on Arizona’s roadways this month the Governor’s Office of Highway Safety is partnering with Kingman Police Department and other local law enforcement agencies to enforce Arizona’s seat belt and child safety seat laws. Arizona presently conducts enforcement under a secondary seat belt law and a primary child safety seat law. The enforcement campaign is based upon high visibility traffic enforcement with a “zero-tolerance” approach towards seat belt and child safety seat usage. KINGMAN – A private trash service has mailed city residents what appears to be a cheaper rate for residential trash services. If a person lives within the city limits, they do not have the option to privatize their residential trash pickup. The city charges $19.78 per month for TWICE-WEEKLY trash pickup, compared to the once weekly as advertised on a mailer, by a private company.
