KINGMAN, Ariz. – A near four-decade long prison term has been ordered for a Lake Havasu City man who had sex with a teenager. Mohave County Superior Court Judge Derek Carlisle handed Adrian Black, 25, a 39-year prison sentence during a Sept. 9 hearing in Kingman.
Judge Carlisle ran 13-year sentences consecutively for each of three sexual conduct with a minor convictions secured at a jury trial last month. He first rejected defense attorney Greg McPhillip’s request for a new trial.
The victim, now 16, told the jury that she was 14 years old when she met Black at a bonfire in Dec., 2024. She testified that her mother, thinking Cruz was 17, allowed him to stay the night and share the same bedroom before she learned that Cruz was in his early 20’s.
Prosecutor Leah Nelson told the court that emotional harm to the victim will linger, and that the Cruz offenses will impact and shape her for life.
