MOHAVE COUNTY — Mohave College helps students build the skills needed to enter the workforce, advance professionally or pursue an entirely new career. For Michelle Oeltjenbruns, the college served as the foundation for a successful career transition, providing the knowledge, experience and support needed to move from one profession to another.
She already has a bachelor degree in communications and public relations but realized it was difficult finding a job in the field, so she started working for an ophthalmologist and learned she wanted a career in healthcare.
“I chose Mohave College because I had a great experience when I moved to Arizona when taking a free certified nursing assistant course, the College was close to home and offered the classes I needed at the times I needed,” Oeltjenbruns said.
At Mohave College, Oeltjenbruns was a graduate of the Medical Assisting program in 2024. As a student she found the guidance she needed from her advisor and instructor to be successful in her courses. Oeltjenbruns was juggling her schooling, being a mother, working a full-time job as a receptionist and managing her medical issues. She was able to accomplish her certificate through the flexibility her instructors provided.
Oeltjenbruns is now working as a registered medical assistant at Lakeside Heart and Vascular where she works closely with patients to register and places heart monitors, refills medications, performs various stress tests, conduct EKGís and more. At her job, she enjoys getting time to spend one-on-one time with the patients and make them feel at ease while theyíre in her care.
Oeltjenbruns is coming back to Mohave College but this time as an instructor to teach a Medical Assisting clinical course in the fall.
She said sheís excited to give back to the College and help those students in the course to learn what it takes to be a medical assistant and share her experiences from working in the field.
