LAKE HAVASU CITY, Ariz. – Lake Havasu City invites residents, community partners, and members of the public to attend a ribbon-cutting ceremony for the new Dr. Thilak Fernando Water Quality Laboratory on Thursday, July 16, at 9 a.m.

The ceremony takes place at 360 Cypress Drive, adjacent to the Mulberry Wastewater Treatment Plant and Cypress Park. The Lake Havasu Area Chamber of Commerce will conduct the official ribbon-cutting ceremony following remarks from City officials and partners.

The new 2,300-square-foot laboratory represents a significant investment in Lake Havasu City’s water and wastewater infrastructure. Designed to improve employee safety, increase operational efficiency, support future growth, and meet evolving regulatory requirements, the facility will enhance the City’s ability to provide high-quality laboratory services for years to come.

Lake Havasu City’s laboratory performs routine testing to help ensure the safety and quality of the community’s drinking water and wastewater systems. In addition to serving Lake Havasu City, the laboratory also provides testing services to communities throughout western Arizona, supporting regional water quality efforts.

The facility is named in honor of Dr. Thilak Fernando, who dedicated more than 30 years of service to Lake Havasu City as a chemist. His commitment to excellence, professionalism, and public service left a lasting impact on the organization and the community.

Community members are encouraged to join Lake Havasu City in celebrating the completion of this important new facility and honoring Dr. Thilak Fernando’s legacy of service.
