BULLHEAD CITY,  Ariz. – A 30-day jail sentence has been imposed for a Bullhead City teenager charged with strangling a woman. Hanz Maciel, 18, was convicted of aggravated assault by domestic violence for the March 27 incident in the 1800 block of El Monte Drive.

Deputy Mohave County Attorney Phillip Delgado said that Maciel engaged in a physical altercation with the 19-year-old victim and that he used his hands around her neck and throat to impede her breathing.

“Choking another human being is very serious, very dangerous,” Judge Billy Sipe said during a June 29th hearing. He said that the crime was magnified by Maciel’s use of a blanket to stifle her screams and because he committed the attack in the presence of an infant.

In addition to jail time, Maciel was placed on probation for three years and ordered to perform 75 hours of community work service. He’ll likely undergo anger management or domestic violence counseling.
