Havasu to host open house on the city’s general plan

LAKE HAVASU CITY — Lake Havasu City residents next opportunity to publicly offer their thoughts and insights on how they envision the city’s future through its general plan is ahead with an upcoming open house.

Citizens can review the draft general plan and provide comments at an open house set for 5 to 7 p.m., Wednesday, Feb. 25 at the Mohave County Public Library, 1770 McCulloch Blvd.  The draft plan is in a 60-day public review period as citizens can offer their thoughts on what’s in the plan through April 17.

A general plan is a long-term vision for the community’s future, guiding decisions on growth, development, infrastructure, and quality of life. The city reviews its general plan every 10 years making changes as guided by citizen input. The resulting final general plan will go on the November ballot.

The city already has been deeply immersed in updating the general plan dating back to a variety of meetings and events seeking public input last fall.

From September through November, the city had a mix of in-person events, online tools, and targeted outreach tied to the General Plan update.

The city held workshops seeking to confirm and refine five aspirational statements, reviewed draft goals for each General Plan chapter and explored future land use maps.

Five aspirational statements are balanced growth, connected community, prosperous economy, thriving residential areas and healthy environment.

Specifically, under balanced growth and land use, citizens said shoreline access and open space preservation are key priorities.  Also, under prosperous economy and cost of development, citizens said expanded healthcare capacity was important.
