KPD responds to suicide, mail theft

KINGMAN – Kingman Police report that an elderly man found dead in a vehicle apparently committed suicide. Deputy Chief Rusty Cooper said the 90-year-old shot himself in a van that was parked on a dirt lot behind a business in the 3900 block of Stockton Hill Road Monday afternoon, Oct. 14.

Cooper said it is believed that the shooting occurred the previous evening. There was no sign of foul play and the name of the victim is withheld pending notification of kin.

Cooper said investigators are also looking for information that will help them identify suspects in another mail theft caper. He said community boxes were opened in the 3700 and 3800 blocks of Eagle Rock Road and that passersby reported finding parcels of mail in the nearby desert Sunday afternoon.

U.S. Postal Service investigators are assisting local police. Anyone with information is asked to call police, 928-753-2191 or Mohave Silent Witness, 928-753-1234.
