Bighorns women’s soccer makes postseason debut in their second season

MOHAVE COUNTY – It’s a milestone year for the Mohave College Bighorns women’s soccer program: in only their second season of competition, the team has secured its first ever postseason berth.

Under the leadership of Head Coach Robert Podeyn, the Bighorns have shown steady improvement and resilience throughout the spring, culminating in the historic achievement of qualifying for the postseason.

“This achievement is a proud moment for every player, coach and supporter of our program,” Coach Podeyn said. “To reach the postseason in year two speaks to the culture our student-athletes have embraced, dedication, growth and belief in one another.”

They now prepare to face the Arizona Western College Matadors, the reigning conference champion and nationally ranked No. 2 in the NJCAA Division I.  The matchup is scheduled for Wednesday, October 29 at 6 p.m., at Arizona Western in Yuma.

The Mohave College Bighorns women’s soccer program launched just prior to the 2024 season and has quickly become an integral part of the college identity. With each match this year, the Bighorns demonstrated a competitive edge, teamwork and increased confidence.

The upcoming game in Yuma provides a major opportunity for Mohave College to showcase its athletic program on the regional and national stage. Fans, alumni and community members are encouraged to join the team in Yuma and wear red, black and white to show support for the Bighorns.
