LA PAZ COUNTY — A 5-acre wildfire spread to a Colorado River bridge that was destroyed in the southern portion of La Paz County community. Flames on Friday, August 1 engulfed the Oxbow Bridge that is used to access the community of Cibola.
The wooden structure collapsed into the river, creating hazards involving submerged debris. The Bureau of Land Management declared the river impassable and urged the public to stay clear of the area.
“Buoys were delivered by the Bureau of Reclamation and are being placed to mark the submerged hazard,” a Bureau of Land Management news release said. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
