Brush fire started at homeless encampment in Needles

NEEDLES — A transient faces prosecution for allegedly sparking a fire at a homeless encampment along the Colorado River in Needles, California. The fire near Jack Smith Memorial Park charred about 15-acres of dense brush on Saturday, July 26.

Investigation led to the July 27 arrest of Shawn Brown, 38, for reckless burning and unlawfully causing a fire.

No one was injured in the fire and no structures were damaged or threatened.
