BULLHEAD CITY – With school starting, or about to start, in area schools, the Bullhead City School District has opened its staff childcare center to employees of all Arizona public and public charter schools in the surrounding region.
Now in its third year, the secure childcare center opened on the Coyote Canyon School campus for BCSD employees. As the first two groups of children grow, moving into BCSD’s pre-school program, the BCSD Governing Board opened the program to children of employees at every public and public charter school in Bullhead City, Ft. Mohave, Mohave Valley and Topock. Fees are on an age-based scale.
In addition to BCSD employees, those at the Academy of Building Industries, Colorado River Union High School District, Desert Star Academy, Mohave Accelerated Learning Center/Mohave Accelerated Elementary School, Mohave Valley Elementary School District, Topock Elementary School District and Young Scholars Academy are now eligible. Each district or school has been contacted.
The center is open on BCSD school and professional development days.
“In less than two short years, BCSD has been accredited for four years by the National Accreditation Commission for Early Care and Education Programs of the Association for Early Learning Leaders,” said Superintendent Carolyn Stewart. “This demonstrates not only the quality of our Childcare Center, but the hard work every day – and sailing through on-site inspections – by coordinator Michele Leyendecker and her amazing team of early childhood educators.”
Stewart credited a host of private and public sector community leaders who supported BCSD’s proposal to plan, open and finally operate an employee childcare center that was needed for the area’s educational professionals.
Additional information about the school employees’ childcare center is available from Leyendecker at 928-704-5745 or mleyendecker@bcsd.org.
